KAG invests in the future with a new extension building

The production of DC motors is scheduled to begin in the new KAG extension as early as the beginning of 2020. Due to a lack of space and the implementation of new technologies in production, it was necessary to expand the existing production area, resulting in the planning and implementation of a new, two-floor extension.

Since the beginning of 2019, a new two-floor building has now been under construction behind the production hall of Kählig Antriebstechnik in Hannover Brinker Hafen. After some delays in obtaining the building permit due to a multitude of conditions, the groundbreaking took place in February 2019. Since then, an additional area of 2400 square metres, distributed over two levels, has been created on a floor area of 46 by 30 metres. The room heights and ultimate loads are designed for large production machines. The hall is insulated according to the latest state-of-the-art to be heated and cooled as efficiently as possible.

In addition, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof to be able to generate part of the required electricity in a self-sufficient and environmentally conscious manner. In combination with an energy storage system, this will also ensure reliability in the event of power failures and generally improve the quality of the network. A roof terrace will be created for all employees on the intermediate roof to the existing hall, which will serve as a lounge area for relaxing and exchanging ideas with each other.

Many advantages through the new extension

„Due to the steady growth of KAG, the expansion of the production area was inevitable,” says Matthias Kählig, Managing Director of Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH. “This allows us to make room for new technologies such as cobots and autonomous intralogistics, and also to equalise the entire manufacturing process, creating a quieter and more efficient work environment for employees.”

In addition to the reasons for expansion already mentioned, the decision was also based on other considerations, such as increasing the company’s depth of added value to be able to manufacture even more complex drive systems.

Through all these considerations, customers will also benefit in the end. The benefits generated by the expansion of the production area include a general upgrading and improvement of the portfolio as well as a general increase in quality through improved focus.

Completion of the extension is scheduled for November 2019, with partial relocation of production to begin in December. This means that the production can begin in the new production hall as early as January 2020.

Conclusion

With the new extension, KAG is investing in the future. The expanded production area allows new trends and technologies to be implemented in production. Customers, as well as the employees of KAG, benefit from that.
