Own EMC measuring cabin for KAG

At the beginning of the year, Kählig Antriebstechnik has installed an EMC GTEM cell, with which measurements during development interference radiations of the motors can be carried out.

Through the use of more and more electronic components in DC motors and applications of the end customers, the reduction of interference radiations of drives is becoming more and more important.

For this reason Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH has installed an EMC GTEM cell (GTEM = Gigahertz Transversal Electro Magnetic Wave) at the beginning of the year. EMC describes the electromagnetic compatibility of electrotechnical devices.

With the measuring cabin the DC motors of KAG can be observed with regard to the emitted interference radiations during development. Already during the development of drives, suitable constructive measures can be taken to minimise and optimise the interference radiations. Thereby KAG customers benefit from an optimal consultation and support in the area of the emitted interference radiations and the beginning suppressions.

In the EMC measuring cabin the motors can thereby be observed up to a total length of 250 mm and interference radiations can be measured from 30 to 1,000 MHz. Thereby the interference radiation of the motors is absorbed in 3 orthogonal axes and is converted through a correlated algorithm to a field measurement in 10 m distance.

KAG invests in the future with a new building extension

The production of DC motors in the new KAG building extension is to start as early as the beginning of 2020. Due to a lack of space and the implementation of new technologies in production, the existing production area had to be expanded, so that the planning and implementation of a new two-storey building extension was started.

Since the beginning of 2019, a new two-storey building has been erected behind the production hall of Kählig Antriebstechnik in Hannover Brinker Hafen. After several delays in obtaining the building permit due to a number of conditions, the ground-breaking ceremony took place in February 2019. Since then, an additional area of 2400 square metres has been created on a 46 x 30 metre area, spread over two storeys. The room heights and bearing loads are designed for large production machines. The hall is insulated according to the latest state of the art, so that it can be heated or cooled as efficiently as possible.

In addition, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof, so that part of the electricity required can be generated independently and in an environmentally friendly manner. In combination with an energy storage system, the system is also fail-safe against power failures and generally improves network quality. A roof terrace will be created on the roof between the existing hall and the intermediate roof, inviting all employees to relax and exchange ideas.

Many advantages thanks to the building extension

Matthias Kählig, Managing Director of Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH, says: “Due to the steady growth of KAG, the expansion of the production areas was unavoidable. This way, we can create space for new technologies such as Cobots and autonomous intralogistics and also straighten out the entire production process, thus creating a quieter and more efficient working environment for the employees.”

In addition to the above-mentioned reasons for expansion, the decision was also based on other considerations, such as increasing the company´s own depth of added value in order to be able to manufacture even more complex drive systems.

In the end, customers will also benefit from all these considerations. The benefits generated by the expansion of the production area include a general upgrading and improvement of the portfolio, as well as a general increase in quality through an improved focus.

Completion of the building extension is planned for November 2019, with a partial relocation of production scheduled for the beginning of December. This means that production can begin in the new production hall as early as in January 2020.

KAG invests in the future with the new building extension. The expanded production area allows new trends and technologies to be implemented in production. This is beneficial both for customers and KAG employees.

Change in the management of KAG

Effective January 1, 2018, the sole shareholder Mr Matthias Kählig will take over the management of Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH (KAG). He succeeds Mr Ulrich Mohr, who leaves the company after completing his 3-year contract.

In the future, Mr Mohr will advise the company on demand and will actively support the transfer of responsibilities to the new management.

The KAG thanks Mr Mohr for the excellent management of the company, the results achieved and the effective and trusting cooperation.

Review SPS-Fair Nuremberg

At the end of November, it was time for the annual SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg. The Fair for automation is one of the most important and biggest fairs of it kinds. For Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH this fair is also the main fair of the year. Therefore KAG focus on this fair.

This year´s SPS IPC Drives was all about “intelligence“ for KAG drives. KAG developed for nearly all own DC drives integrated electronics which gives the brushed and brushless drives „intelligence“. They communicate through CAN Bus with various protocols. The electronics are able to perform all common controls and plenty of additional functions. Since the release a lot of solutions in the agriculture, rail technology and building technology could be realized.

These solutions and the possibilities created a lot of interest at the fair. Additional to the samples shown on the fair, the new designed KAG-Folder supported the many conversations. All folders can be found at http://www.kag-hannover.com/en/news-support/downloads/

To sum up, the fair was a big success for KAG. We had a lot of interesting conversations and contacts with promising new projects. In 2018 KAG will also be represented at the SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg.

Important note for our business partners: Change in the management of KAG

Ulrich Mohr will succeed Matthias Kählig and will be the future managing director of Kählig Antriebstechnik GmbH (KAG) from 1 January 2015. The shareholder Matthias Kählig will stay full-time in the company and will be in charge of the formation of the product management and development of new products.
The graduate industrial engineer Ulrich Mohr has worked as EDP and organisational consultant after his studies at the IDS Professor Scheer GmbH. From 1993 he focused on controlling, finances, EDP, organisation and logistics. As business unit and commercial manager he operated mainly in small and middle-sized companies within the international network all over Germany. Since 2002 he has worked in the management of Viscom AG and Wagner Group amongst others in the region of Hanover.
Matthias Kählig, who has been the sole shareholder of KAG since 2003, knows Mr Mohr from previous consulting projects and is delighted to have gained such an experienced managing director for KAG.
